The Red-cockaded Woodpecker

The Red-cockaded Woodpecker drills a series of holes around the nest cavity. Large amounts of sap flow from these holes. Their nest are easily spotted because of the white streaks of sap on the bark of the tree. The sticky sap helps protect the nest from predators such as snakes. And it is a member of the woodpecker family.
